Dear Prof Nkandu luo and government, What did we ever do to deserve such treatment from you? You are a mother yourself and have children that went to school and some are still going. Is it because they study abroad that we have no value? Or maybe it’s because we are not your biological children that you dislike us this much? Sanitation conditions at universities have always been bad and the senior students have cried so many times for improvement but why do it now when we are supposed to be learning? Unza closed in September and I believe that was enough time till now to improve sanitation conditions. It’s like our futures are being played with. Some of us come from far away places and cannot afford staying in a boarding house because it’s too expensive. Why couldn’t you build more hostels with the abundant space. You want us to move out but you will not give us an alternative place to stay! Cholera has never been an issue at The University of Zambia and such excuses shouldn’t be used to cover up for the ministries mistakes. Concerned UNZA Student.. Liquidators of The Post Newspapers have moved in for the final kill putting the property on sale. Provisional liquidator Lewis Mosho opened up the gates to the once mighty Post Newspapers showing off the property and enticing would be suitors with a US$1, 6 million offer for the premises that sits in the uptown suburb of Rhodes Park. The memo is out that the liquidator will pay out the money to former employees and also other creditors. Recoveries manager Robert Chabinga hosted a media breakfast to generate hype around the sale of the premises that housed the 26 year old newspaper that was the largest circulating publication. The Lusaka High Court through judge Sunday Nkonde declared the company insolvent proving to be the last nail in the Post Newspapers coffin. On June, 21 2017 the Zambia Revenue Authority seized property halting operations at The Post Newspaper Printing Plant in Lusaka which marked the beginning of the end. ZRA officers raided the Post Newspaper’s printing plant locking up the printing plant and seized property thereby grounding to a halt the newspaper’s operations. ZRA took over accounts, cash and property and state police took over security. At the paper’s newsroom at the Bwinjimfumu office, ZRA officers locked up newspaper staff and some clients as they executed their action. This followed the Supreme court’s ruling in favour of ZRA n a case in which the High Court granted a stay of the ZRA’s levy of distress on the Post Newspapers. Ngulube has seen the light and apologized unreservedly to President Lungu and the PF for the harsh comments he has been uttering in the media. Opposition Radical Revolutionary Party president president Vincent Chaile says it’s irrational for the ruling Patriotic Front F government to blame the opposition over the riots in Kanyama. Chaile says President Edgar Lungu knows that “a hungry man is an angry man.” He says one need not be a philosopher or great mind like Albert Einstein to understand there can never be meaningful dialogue with an empty stomach. “The people who are shielding the president from seeing reality on the ground are the same ones busy misinformation him. “When people start shouting …we want change we …want change …that does not mean they are sponsored by the oppossition.,” Chaile says. He says President Lungu should realise that the Sata legacy that he has been riding on is slowly fading away Chaile said it was now time for President Lungu to building his own legacy. “Surely what is so difficult for govt with all the resources at their dispose to clean the streets… so that our people are vending in a clean environment,” he wonders. Kanyama residents took the streets on Friday after government declared curfew to mitigate the spread of cholera. Out of favour Kabwe Central Patriotic Front Member of Parliament Tutwa Ngulube has come down heavily on controversial ruling party cadre Maxwell Chongu for alleging that the lawmaker swindled him in 2014. Ngulube who has thrown all caution to the wind in his war against his party has dressed down Chongu labelling him a former ‘hungry youth’ being used by State House. The Kabwe lawmaker said that he picked Chongu from the streets in 2015 and lifted him from his car dealer business. Ngulube said that Chongu should not pretend that he was a PF member as he had only jumped on the ruling party ship once the fierce battle to install President Lungu as party presidential candidate had almost been won. He warned Chongu that he would sort him out if the ruling party cadre continues being using him. In his anger Ngulube may have gone some miles in admitting some of the unsavoury acts he engaged in sustaining Chongu’s cadre activities. Ngulube is on the verge of being expelled from the ruling Patriotic Front but has chosen not to go down quietly. He has gone all over town blowing the trumpet of what role he played in the installation of President Lungu as the PF presidential candidate after President Michael Sata died. I find the riots in KANYAMA CONSTITUENCY deliberately consistent with the language of those calling for cadres and the nation to prepare for early elections and subsequent impeachment of President Lungu. It is no hidden fact that some people have been very consistent on their alarmist message and it can only be hoped they have no visible hand in all this thereby taking advantage to tailor the riots with their selfish power hungry talks about early elections. It is immoral to use the people’s suffering to score political goals by sponsoring anarchy. Only the guilty will answer? It is undeniable that the cholera epidemic has caused devastating effects to the livelihood of vendors and traders. But it also true that government just like any reasonable government would do has a justifiable cause to prevent the loss of lives in whatever circumstances. Any govt owes it’s people the duty and sacrifice to save lives from preventable deaths. As a young person like many others we would expect we all join hands in combating this epidemic regardless of our political affiliations by abiding by the measures set by government and where necessary providing actionable and viable solutions and ideas to the national cholera combating team. Moving forward I feel this country needs to genuinely introspect on what it really needs in terms of consistency on the question of vending. We urgently need a realistic policy towards vending and one that will not carry a partisan political face. Zambians must objectively answer the question of vending and deal with it with the sobriety it deserves. I feel it’s time we practice smart politics. We cannot continue as a country to promote lawlessness in order to gain political mileage and election votes. These are the results of promoting lawlessness in order to gain votes at the expense of sanity. We allowed street vending and it has become normal but now it’s a time bomb. As a growing population Zambia needs to address these things such as unregistered taxis, cadres grabbing land and selling plots, cadres collecting levies at markets and bus stations. All these are wrongs that all of us must stop tolerating especially those in government. Otherwise we are creating a breed of criminals who have approval from govt to do wrong things and stopping them in future won’t be easy because they feed their families through those activities. It’s time we brought sanity to ourselves and afforded the traders as well the human decency of proper and serene designated trading places. If Mayor Christopher Kangombe can manage to ban street vending and pirate taxis in Kitwe it can be done everywhere if we are willing. Kangombe must be a shining example to the rest of the councils in the country. I say so because there is serious growing mistrust among the Zambian people. It is no surprise that even when the government means well, people are finding it difficult to trust govt because of lack of proper information. It is because of a lack of trust that we have this Mukula Issue and now people are becoming impatient with government on the cholera situation thereby resorting to riots. Government must restore hope in the hearts of the Zambians. In conclusion as a new breed of young politicians I feel its time we started smart politics that promote those that make decisions which have positive economic impact in the interest of the country. Not politics that cost us the loss of revenue from closed and empty shops and markets and from pirate taxis including foregone levies collected by cadres from markets and bus stations. Two more cases of Cholera have been recorded in Kitwe bring the total to five cases since the epidemic broke out in the district. The two cases have been recorded in Kitwe’s Ndeke township where a 9 month old baby tested positive while the other is aged 7 from the same area. However, Kitwe District commissioner Binwell Mpundu who confirmed the new cases said the 9 months old was brought in dead at Kitwe Teaching Hospital in which medical officers suspect was cholera. He said the medical officers were still carrying out tests of the deceased whose twin tested positive to cholera. “The circumstances around this child are a bit tricky because they were twins that were taken to the hospital one was a BID case; the other twin tested positive to cholera, but we are not certain if the other child died out of cholera. They have to do tests on the child that was brought in dead,†Mpundu said. He said members of the family where the cholera case was recorded and a funeral have been asked to disperse to avoid further outbreaks of the disease. Mpundu has further asked parents to take precautionary measures because most reports recorded in the district included children. Losing Mongu Central parliamentary candidate Mwala Kalaluka has branded the opposition UPND as political time wasters. Kalaluka who is a journalist by profession and one of the products of the now defunct Post Newspapers said the UPND stance on the Kanyama riots was opportunistic and devoid of substance. The journalist turned socialist by proclamation and contested elections under the failed Rainbow Party project said that the UPND should not delight in the riots. BELOW IS HIS FULL POSTING: Following the riots that have erupted in Lusaka over the PF government’s measures to address the deadly cholera outbreak, which situation could have been avoided had we a serious leadership in place, I have observed our colleagues who support Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND taking a swipe at those who are aggrieved by these restrictive measures. They’re laughing at the irate members that they are the ones who voted for Edgar Lungu instead of HH. This is being heartless because you cannot blame someone you have not taught how to be conscious of their struggles. Stop lying to the people that the problems they’re facing will evaporate once they vote for your HH as president. The UPND has several members of parliament, mayors and councillors who were voted for in 2016 on the basis of the party, yet have these individuals delivered on their campaign mandate? No. Now they’re busy fighting for 2021 adoptions, strongly believing that if HH is the presidential candidate again, they will use his name to bounce back into leadership. Sorry, that approach will not work for you this time round, you political time-wasters. Whilst you are laughing at the people of Kanyama, who you only consider in terms of votes, we will socialise with them around their struggles and teach them to wage their own liberation from your likes. We shall see who will laugh last in 2021. The post UPND Are Political Time Wasters – Kalaluka appeared first on Zambia Reports.

Opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has added his voice in urging residents of Kanyama to desist from engaging to acts that will lead to the destruction of property and loss of life. Hichilema says the situation may be desperate, but there was no need to further complicate the situation. BELOW IS HICHILEMA’S IS STATEMENT Dear Citizens, We have received information that traders who were displaced from the streets and resident in Kanyama have run out of patience and protesting, demanding to get back their trading places so that they can continue earning a living. We fully understand the challenges that everyone is facing at this moment but we want to call for calm as together we identify lasting solutions to these challenges. Further, we call on every well meaning Zambian not to involve themselves in violent protests that would lead to death. May calm be restored in our country and we hope even those whose trading places have been declared prohibited throughout the country will not resort to violence but dialogue and identify lasting solutions. It is understood that people’s lives and livelihoods have been disturbed and its time the PF took this matter seriously. The solution to roadside trading is to designate an area for traders to conduct their business. God bless you all, God bless our country. HH.
