The Zambia national team kickoff their African Nations Championship (CHAN) with a clash against the Cranes of Uganda at the Grand Stade de Marrakech. Coach Wedson Nyirenda will be hoping that his charges come to the party with their pre-ordained script tailored along an opening day strong start. Skipper Ziyo Tembo will have to commandeer his troops from central defence alongside Adrian Chama while the wingbacks strong candidates are Simon Silwimba and Fackson Kapumbu. In the engine room the solidity of Kondwani Mtonga may be complemented by the fluidity of Jack Chirwa with Friday Samu and Lazarous Kambole the favourites to lead the attack. Gifted winger Augustine Mulenga and Ernest Mbewe may take up the flanks to complete the set up that will have Toaster Nsabata as the last line of defence in goal. On the bench options abound upfront with the commanding presence of Alex Ng’onga and Martin Phiri providing possible options. Zambia will be dressed in the new KoPa kit. The Zambia national team this morning trained in the new KoPa kit at the Grand Stade de Marrakech in Morocco. Zambia is expected to don the new KoPa kit which is a Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) own branded kit. FAZ opted for own branding after having terminated the contract with Singaporean firm Mafro. The new strip will be available in white, green and the traditional copper attire. Zambia’s official playing kit will be unveiled on Sunday during the opening fixture against Uganda. The game will be played at 21:15 hours (Zambian time) and will be live on pay television channel SuperSport. Opposition Radical Revolutionary Party president president Vincent Chaile says it’s irrational for the ruling Patriotic Front F government to blame the opposition over the riots in Kanyama. Chaile says President Edgar Lungu knows that “a hungry man is an angry man.” He says one need not be a philosopher or great mind like Albert Einstein to understand there can never be meaningful dialogue with an empty stomach. “The people who are shielding the president from seeing reality on the ground are the same ones busy misinformation him. “When people start shouting …we want change we …want change …that does not mean they are sponsored by the oppossition.,” Chaile says. He says President Lungu should realise that the Sata legacy that he has been riding on is slowly fading away Chaile said it was now time for President Lungu to building his own legacy. “Surely what is so difficult for govt with all the resources at their dispose to clean the streets… so that our people are vending in a clean environment,” he wonders. Kanyama residents took the streets on Friday after government declared curfew to mitigate the spread of cholera.
