Zambia coach Beston Chambeshi is expected to make at least two changes to his traditional starting line as the Junior Chipolopolo boys face Costa Rica in the concluding Group C match. Chambeshi is targeting a 100 percent group stage record at the on-going FIFA Under-20 World Cup in South Korea. Skipper Solomon Sakala is suspended after collecting two yellow cards giving the technical bench some homework to find replacements. Zambia is guaranteed of a second round place but need at least a draw to confirm their top place, or at worst hope for Portugal to beat Iran in the other Group C match today. Chambeshi’s lads won both their matches in Group C against Portugal (2–1) and Iran (4–2). In Sakala’s place, Chambeshi has enough options on the bench with Benson Chali, Edward Tembo or Muchindu Muchindu expected to partner Moses Nyondo in central defence. There is a possibility of a slight change upfront with Conlyde Luchanga expected to be relegated to the bench as Chambeshi seeks to strengthen the midfield. The formidable partnership of strikers Patson Daka and Fashion Sakala will lead the attack with deputy captain Enock Mwepu, Emmanuel Banda and Boyd Musonda expected to form the heart of the midfield that will be completed by Edward Chilufya. Kickoff is at 17:00 hours local time (10:00 hours Zambian time). …other possible opponents are USA, Senegal or Saudi Arabia Zambia may first one of the big football names Argentina or Germany in the knock-out stage of the FIFA Under-20 World Cup underway in South Korea. A draw in tonight’s Group C fixture against Costa Rica will confirm the junior Chipolopolo as leaders of the pool will set the team up against six time winners Argentina and one time champions Germany who may finish the group stage as best third finishers overall. If not either Germany or Argentina, a repeat of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations final against Senegal is a remote possibility for a pre-quarterfinal clash. The last time Zambia progressed to the round of 16 in 2007, the team was eliminated by an African opponent — Nigeria. While Senegal is a possible opponent, Group F is wide open with leaders USA, Saudi Arabia, Senegal or Equador all with the chance of progressing to the next round. According to the fixtures, the winner of Group C will face the best third finishers either in Group A, B or F. Assuming Zambia finish second — a possible permutation that may arise if Iran beat Portugal and Costa Rica win tonight — the team will face hosts Korea Republic and remain in Cheonan instead of travelling back to Jeju where Group C winners will play their round of 16 match. A remote scenario that Zambia could finish second of Group C is present only if Costa Rica collect three points tonight and Iran defeat Portugal with a healthy goal difference. According to FIFA regulations governing the competition, the head-to-head rule will only apply if Zambia and Iran finish six points apiece (which is a possibility), have the same goal difference and have each scored the same number of goals. United Party for National Development president Hakainde Hichilema has praised South Africa opposition leader Mmusi Maimane for raising international alarm after he was deported at the Lusaka airport for visiting the country. Speaking to journalists for the first since incarceration six weeks ago, Hichilema said Maimane’s aborted visit to witness his treason trial had highlighted the brutality of the Patriotic Front government. Maimane was deported from Lusaka after being advised against travelling. He had travelled to witness Hichilema’s trial on Friday. The Zambian government through High Commissioner to South Africa Emmanuel Mwamba says Maimane’s visit was inappropriately time and had the potential to interfere with the justice system in the country. Hichilema, however, said Maimane had demonstrated true comradeship and exposed the Zambian government. “I give Mmusi Maimane kudos for his courage and understanding that justice denied somewhere is justice denied everywhere. That [his deportation] shows how brutal this system is, how suppressive this system is,” Hichilema decried. The opposition leader remains in prison for treason after Magistrate David Simusamba referred the matter to the High Court considering jurisdiction issues. Hichilema has branded his incarceration a show of hatred by those he has opposed. “You heard the deliberations in court, not satisfactory, but this is the price that we have to pay. This is punishment, this is hatred. “The world must pay attention to what is happening in Zambia, I am talking about the judgment that magistrate [Greenwell] Malumani gave, that is what we are going to rely on. “There was no investigation. We were arrested brutally by these people here, robbed, dehumanised for a crime we did not commit,” he said. Hichilema crossed paths with the law when his convoy at the Kuomboka Traditional Ceremony clashed with the presidential motorcade. The ruling PF says the manner in which President Edgar Lungu is relating to former Zambia’s Republican Presidents attests to his extraordinary capacity to unite the nation. PF Deputy Spokesperson Frank Bwalya says President Lungu has demonstrated outstanding credentials by showing to the nation that he appreciates former Presidents Kenneth Kaunda and Rupiah Banda. Bwalya says the ruling PF is inspired by how President Lungu is relating to both Dr. Kaunda and Mr. Banda as did when he recently allowed them to accompany him to Chinsali. Bwalya notes that President Lungu displayed a very powerful gesture which Zambians ought to start emulating. He says he holds the view that it is high time that a sitting Republican President begun reaching out to his predecessors regardless of which political party they come from. Bwalya believes that this is what will help in uniting the nation further and galvanizing efforts for development. The post Pres.
