Opposition UPND president Hakainde Hichilema and his deputy Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba will have to wait longer to make progress in the election matter after judge Mwila Chitabo adjourned the matter to April 11-12 Judge Chitabo has been hit with an application to recuse himself from the matter after Hichilema and Mwamba applied to have him removed from the matter for allegedly being biased. The application has cast aside adjudication on the main matter until the motion on judge Chitabo is exhausted. Judge Chitabo adjourned the matter to April 11 and 12 when the Attorney General is expected to respond. Hichilema and Mwamba are seeking an order that the manner in which the Constitutional Court construed the 14 days in Article 101 and 103 was ultra vires Article 18(9) of the Constitution. The duo has put the court on trial with another complaint before the Judicial Service Complaints Commission against the judges of the Constitutional Court whom they have accused of being biased and incompetent. UPND Members of Parliament will have no choice but to sit through the House when President Edgar Lungu addresses parliament today. Last time President Lungu addressed parliament the UPND MPs shunned the sitting on grounds that they did not recognize his Presidency. Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini found the MPs guilty of breaching parliamentary procedure. The UPND has been challenging the election of President Lungu alleging that the vote was stolen from them. President Edgar Lungu will today address parliament in line with the amended constitution that compels the Head of State to date the House. The address will be an opportunity for the President to set for the tone for his vision during his rule. Under the amended constitution President Lungu will be expected to address parliament quarterly with MPs having an opportunity to ask him questions. The post UPND MPs Face Pres. Lawyer Makebi Zulu has been summoned by the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) over remarks that he made alleging that the organization had hired itself out to the Nchito family. Zulu who is also Eastern Province Minister said that he had written back to LAZ acknowledging their summons. He said that he will appear before LAZ next week to answer to charges. Zulu said that he had been summoned for allegedly addressing the media on a legal matter. LAZ’s decision to render legal services to lawyer Nchima Nchito who has landed himself in trouble for defending the interests of Post Newspapers in liquidation Editor in Chief Fred M’membe. The decision has received some criticism from lawyers like Hobday Kabwe who has also been summoned before LAZ. The zeal with which LAZ has shown in protecting the interests of the Nchito empire has become a subject of public debate.
