Foreign affairs minister Harry Kalaba says projects spearheaded by American agencies are improving the life of many people in Zambia. Kalaba singled out the Millenium Challenge Account and USAID as some of the key projects that were shaping Zambia’s future in a positive direction. Kalaba has also bemeoned the negative social media propaganda about the country saying its affecting its international standing. The minister has since urged the international community to ignore the negative image being portrayed by some sections of Zambians. KALABA’S FULL STATEMENT PRESS STATEMENT Zambia’s Foreign Affairs Minister hails US relations WASHINGTON DC- Tuesday, September 26, 2017 – Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba says the United States of America is a strategic bilateral partner to Zambia’s development agenda. Mr. Kalaba says the USA has been an all-weather friend country from the time they recognized Zambia’s sovereignty and independence since 1964. He says development projects being spearheaded by the Millennium Challenge Account and USAID have greatly improved the wellbeing of Zambia and as such the USA will remain relevant to the needs of the country. Mr. Kalaba further urged Diplomats to ensure that economic diplomacy takes center stage to ensure value is realized for the money government is spending in missions abroad. The Foreign Affairs minister has also urged Zambian diplomats to guard against the negative propaganda being propagated by social media to avoid being misled about Zambia’s good standing on the international market. Mr. Kalaba says Zambia has scored positive strides and will continue with its good standing as a beacon of peace on the African continent and the world over. He says Zambia has remained steadfast in promoting peace and security in the country and will endeavour to ensure regional peace in the Great Lakes region and Southern African Development Countries-SADC. Mr. Kalaba says peace and tranquility is a prerequisite for any meaningful economic development. Speaking to diplomats in Washington D.C, Mr. Kalaba also announced that Zambia is set as the incoming chair to assume the chairmanship of SADC Troika on Politics, Defense, and Security. “Three countries form the troika body; Angola is the Chair, Zambia is incoming and Tanzania is outgoing chair. So Zambia is now the incoming chair of the SADC troika on Politics, Defense, and Security for the period 2018-2019,†he said adding that “Zambia’s ascendancy to membership of the double Troika of the SADC Organ places the country on a good platform to promote peace and unity in the region.†Mr. Kalaba further says Zambia will not only ensure regional stability but will also use its position as a member of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union-AU to foster peace on the continent. He says Zambia’s foreign policy has greatly improved as evidenced by several State visits President Edgar Lungu has received from the time he assumed the office. Meanwhile, Mr. Kalaba is saddened at the deplorable state of the Chancery at the Zambia Embassy in Washington D.C due to stalled renovation works. The minister, however, has pledged to ensure that funds are released for renovation to resume in the soonest possible time. Opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema’s return to the farm in Choma has come with some joy, giving him the much needed fresh air away from the troubles of the city where he endured four months in prison. Hichilema is in Southern Province where he and his UPND enjoy massive support. At his farm, visitors are pouring in to offer solidarity after he was released from incarceration on treason charges many observers said were politically motivated. Hichilema and 5 others were arrested in April after a brutal police raid on his residence in Lusaka’s New Kasama area. In Choma, Hichilema feels at home. He said, “It was an emotional moment this [yesterday] afternoon as our neighbours paid us a visit at our Choma farm. “Just like any other farmer, they also expressed their desire for better agricultural policies which would ensure more food production, fair market prices and turn our country into a food basket for the region as a whole.” Hichilema was delighted to receive briefings from his neighours who during elections give me close to 90 percent endorsement. “They also briefed us on progress concerning projects we have emabrked on as we have for sometime now been helping to construct community schools and community health posts in various parts of the country and our next step will be to commission some of these projects whose central focus is to help our country move forward,” he said. Hichilema will be going for a sixth attempt to become Zambia’s 7th Head of State in 2021. The post Hichilema Gets Some Farm Love appeared first on Zambia Reports.

In response to FAZ CEO Ponga Liwewe’s statement claiming there is an agenda against his person anchored on falsehoods and defamatory publications, we respond as follows. 1. Information published by Zambia Reports has so far has been verified and confirmed as true and factual. Mr Liwewe will do the public a favour to convincingly justify why his company would engage in direct transaction with an agent of CAF. When was the contract between Mpila Zambia and Largardere signed? Is there a copy of the contract? What date was the contract was signed? 2. Mr Liwewe claims this relationship has existed before his arrival at Football House. When he was engaged as General Secretary of FAZ, did he declare interest about the relationship between Mpila Zambia and Largardere Sports? Is there anything to show such interest was declared? 3. Assuming he declared interest, what does the FIFA Code of Ethics state about such a relationship? We understand FAZ does not have a Code of Ethics, but has Mr. Liwewe not seen the FIFA Code of Ethics? 4. Maureen Kawengele questioned why Mr. Liwewe’s firm would enter a deal with Largardere which is under criminal investigations in Egypt. Yes, we confirm that the French media company is under such investigations. Here is a link from the UK’s Guardian Newspaper. Without delving into the other activities, we hope Mr. Liwewe has done due diligence on the matters in public domain before directing threats at Ms. Kawengele For the avoidance of any doubt, we state that the only agenda we can recall having, and will continue to hold true, is ensuring those in public offices are made to account for their actions without impunity. It is this agenda that partly contributed to Mr. Liwewe finding himself in the current position. If he fails to observe the tenets of corporate governance, we have no reason to fold our pens, notebooks, keyboards and look away. He, too, like any other public officia who oversteps their boundary, is accountable to the people he has been called to serve. We wonder why the FAZ president Andrew Kamanga has given this matter a blind eye when his pledge to assume the top FAZ office hinged on accountability and transparency. Did he deceive FAZ councillors by promising one thing and delivering exactly the opposite? The post Response To FAZ CEO: Largarde and Mpila Affair Is Unethical appeared first on Zambia Reports.
