A woman of Chipata identified as Clara on Thursday morning attempted to murder her husband Goldwin Kamtunda after a marital dispute that ensued over a step daughter. BELOW IS A NARRATION SUBMITTED TO ZAMBIA REPORTS It happened that the two fought due to the step mother who used to mistreat the step daughter. According to the hubby’s explanation, the wife used to wake up a 5 yr old daughter early in the morning around 05 to do the house chaos, and sometimes she would just wake her up so that she goes out side. On this day 12th January 2017 in the morning, the woman woke up the daughter at 05 to go sit outside by grabbing her and threw her out of the house. Hi, do you know that UPND cadre Larry Mweetwa who is a pharmacist in UK is not a fully trained soldier like he tries to potray? Larry joined what is called territorial army which is a reserve army just like we have reserve police in Zambia. He did a 2 week training which includes weapon handling and ¨very basic field craft. He was meany to be a reserve soldier but couldnt even cope. Army reserve soldiers or voluteers mainly work on weekends. Harry has never been a fully trained soldier like he shows on facebook. Zambia has a small number of its citizens who has served in British army and if you ask them if Larry’s 2 weeks course is anywere close to military they will laugh at you.He never even completed the ¨reserve training¨.Let him concetrate on been a cadre.British army is a very serious organisation. Please tell harry to stop posing as a ¨reserve soldier¨because he isnt now. There is no secrecy in army. Preparations by Zambia’s Football Association to host the Under 20 Africa Cup of Nations are reportedly in disarray with logistical arrangements way behind schedule. With about 41 days before the country hosts its first major continental event, the opening fixture is still a state secret. How? Sources says the opening programme has not been designed and there is nothing in the pipeline suggesting the programme will be ready soon. The sources have disclosed that team hotels, media accommodation, transportation, catering services and training venues are yet to be attended to. There are fears Zambia may suffer severe embarrassment as no proper preparations have been outlined. It’s against this background that we agree with the concerns raised by Chewe Bowa who recently lamented the lack of seriousness by FAZ towards the hosting of the Under-20 tournament. Bowa was shocked that FAZ general secretary Ponga Liwewe has travelled to Gabon for the Africa Cup and is expected to be out for a whole month when the country was behind schedule preparing to host a continental event. We are short of words at Bowa’s revelations. Whatever Liwewe is doing in Gabon is not as important as Zambia hosting the Africa Cup for the Under 20. The Africa Cup in Gabon will end around February 10, two weeks before the Under-20 tournament in Zambia. How could Liwewe have gone on what we strongly believe is a sightseeing mission in Gabon instead of being at the centre of organizing the hosting of an important event in his country? Is Liwewe capable of running the FAZ secretariat? We are beginning to strongly doubt Liwewe’s capacity to manage football affairs. President Edgar Lungu seems to have attached great importance to Zambian football but those responsible for the management of the game are seemingly approaching business casually and with a care free attitude. As general secretary, Liwewe is the engine of FAZ but his approach has been pathetic to say the least. How can FAZ explain the lack of adverts for the tournament. There are numerous complaints from various sectors about the lack of ambience ahead of the tournament. How can Zambia fail to create an atmosphere that suggests we are a country hosting a mini Africa Cup? It’s a shame FAZ can’t even help soccer fans plan for the tournament. Maybe they will be happy with empty stadia in Ndola and Lusaka. It will probably make them proud. While the two groups are known, no one knows who is playing who and when. Is this how people run football? It’s not possible that soccer fans will watch all the games but by availing them fixtures, they are able to plan well in advance and also apportion resources for a specific assignment. Or maybe FAZ will grant free entry to all matches? FAZ has todate still not announced the official kit supplier for Zambia or who will dress the team during the tournament yet Mr Liwewe has the luxury of going to Gabon for a month. What kind of joke is this? We urge sports minister Moses Mawere to take keen interest in the way things are moving at FAZ. The manner the event is being organized is not only shambolic, but has the potential to throw the image of our country into pitiful sight. Spending over K40 million on a poorly organized tournament is not prudent management. FAZ must wake up and show some sense of responsibility. Otherwise, we are headed for disaster next month. Nigerian multi-billionaire Aliko Dangote who was in Zambia for a one day visit yesterday afternoon paid a courtesy call on President Edgar Chagwa Lungu to express his gratitude for the enabling environment that the country continues to offer investors at every level. During the courtesy call, Dangote expressed interest to consolidate his existing investments in Zambia and explore opportunities in the energy and agriculture sectors. “I am here not only to explore investment opportunities and consolidate our existing business relations, but also to congratulate your Excellency for your victory in the last general elections. I wish you many years of success as you guide your nation to greater heights and prosperity,†said Dangote to President Lungu. “During your tenure, you need to implement agricultural practices which will ensure that yields per hectare are high and competitive,†this is because, “Zambia’s natural advantage in the export market is the readily available captive market that consists of eight neighbouring countries and other nations in the great lakes region.†Dangote also said, “energy is a critical requirement for economic development and so it is important that you expand your energy supply footprint both for local consumption, and export to regional markets.†“We are going to explore investment opportunities in the energy sector and perhaps look at the viability of existing petroleum refinery facilities.” Meanwhile, President Lungu has instructed the Minister of Finance and all relevant government ministries and agencies to ensure that the process of facilitating investments in job-creation enterprises is efficient. The President reiterated that, “agriculture is the major thrust in Zambia’s economic diversification drive and among our top priorities, which include, the provision of affordable food, fuel and farmer inputs.†“I admire your tenacity and commitment to invest within Africa because that is what improves the brotherhood between nations. We will support you and facilitate your investments in Zambia,†assured the President, adding that, “we need to put our hands together to help our people out of poverty.†Earlier, Dangote held a consultative meeting with the Minister of Finance Felix Mutati. During the meeting, Mr. Dangote encouraged the Zambian government to strengthen business management skills especially among small and medium enterprises. The Nigerian multi-billionaire also said support by the banking sector to small and medium enterprises is key to deepening the Zambian economy and creating jobs for locals.
