Musician Chama Fumba popularly known Pilato has washed his hands off the opposition UPND to sign up for the ruling Patriotic Front. Pilato has been a thorn in the ruling party flesh has since apologized for having hurt the PF through his works of art. The Copperbelt musician was the most notable musician on the UPND campaign team but has since crossed over to the PF. Pilato was presented to the PF leadership today at the party secretariat. Part of his notable political acts was his A Lungu Anabwera song that riled the PF supporters. It was a remix of the legendary Nashil Pischen Kazembe’s Aphiri Anabwela, with Pilato calling President Lungu “a drunk,” among several other insults. The musician was arrested over the song in June 2015 but the state later abandoned the legal pursuit. Pilato was welcomed by PF deputy secretary general Mumbi Phiri. The ‘repented’ Pilato has pledged total loyalty to the ruling party. The post Pilato Reconciles with PF…Washes Hands Off UPND appeared first on Zambia Reports.

The case involving MMD faction leader Nevers Mumba has hit a fourth time adjournment. And Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba’s threatening violence case where he said that he would go for his throat against President Edgar Lungu has also been adjourned to February, 22. Mumba is facing a charge of giving false information to a public officer after he stormed ZNBC studios in August last year protesting a story about the petition in his capacity as a UPND sympathizer. The charge was initially crafted as criminal trespass but was modified to giving false information. Last week when the matter came up Magistrate Lameck Mwale adjourned it to today as the prosecution team had filed its submissions late. When the matter came up today the case could not take off as the magistrate was not available. The court was supposed to make a ruling on whether Mumba has a case to answer or not. It has since been adjourned to January 11. Meanwhile GBM’s case has also been adjourned as Magistrate Nthandose Chabala was not available. ZAMBIA UNION OF JOURNALISTS Unity is Strength The Zambia Union of Journalists (ZUJ) has learnt with sadness the death of veteran journalist and lecturer Faxon Misheck Nkandu who passed on yesterday. Mr Nkandu, who also served Zambia as a diplomat under the UNIP Government, was an accomplished media expert in whose hands so many current journalists of today passed. ZUJ will remember Mr Nkandu as a pillar of the Journalism Department at the Evelyn Hone College of Applied Sciences and Arts and other private colleges, that he had a contagious sense of humour and style of speech that all his students caught once they went through his classes. ZUJ members will also remember the last public appearance Mr Nkandu made last May at the World Press Freedom Day in Lusaka. Mr Nkandu’s participation at that forum despite his advanced age and failing health signified his passion for the journalism profession. May his soul rest in eternal peace. The turmoil in the mining sector has spread to Luanshya Copper Mines where workers have downed tools stunted salaries. Last week workers at Konkola Copper Mines in Chililabombwe downed tools protesting over salaries they had said remained stagnant in the last four years. Management at the China Non Ferrous Mining firm refused to accede to the workers demand to raise their salaries. Their colleagues at KCM in Chililabombwe are currently engaged in talks through their union over salaries. Despite copper prices rebounding in the last few months the mining firms have remained entangled in longstanding production quarters. Local suppliers and contractors staged a protest last month with a deal later struck that they will be paid their dues at the month end of January. [FrontPageAfrica] Why Africa, a continent blessed abundantly with natural resources and excessive value of human capital is yet to find its rightful place in world politics?
