Harry Kalaba, the former Foreign Affairs Minister, is moving at a very slow pace and will take a bit of some time to make a political land mark in Zambia, one of his followers has observed. Kalaba, who has been on the Copperbelt on two occasions targeting church members, is said to be taking his time to form a political party. The official believes Kalaba will do well to start forming structures as he awaits the final details of registration of his political party. “So far we have good numbers but not much, we are a bit slow in our mobilisation activities. Some members are coming from the Patriotic Front and Wynter Kabimba natured us, so all we need is direction.; “Obviously delays to register the party are also contributing but you must also be aware that he is still a PF MP but has hinted forming a political party,” an official who declined to be named said. The official said the political field was slowly becoming competitive and those with intentions to contest the next elections at presidential level should not hide their plans. “I know elections are quiet a distant but that doesn’t mean you can wait longer. People should start knowing the names otherwise we will be caught napping. There are too many options out there, party registration process should be done quickly,” the official added. He further cautioned against practicing smart politics as that would send him into oblivion like NAREP leader Elias Chipimo who has brilliant ideas but has failed to convince Zambians. The Bahati Member of Parliament has continued discussing issues of corruption among the reasons he resigned from President Edgar Lungu’s Cabinet. A South African firm Heriot Property Limited, developers of Mukuba Mall in Kitwe, has been named as the private investors behind the controversial Wusakaile Secondary School football pitch deal that has sparked debate in the community. And Kitwe District Education Board Secretary Allan Kaoma has alleged that the private developer is now targeting to buy off part of the land at Malela Secondary School as a trade off with Wusakile Secondary School. The developer, who is alleged to have named some high ranking government officials in the deal, has declined to be refunded but instead demands that alternative land of his choice be given as a trade off for the failure to secure Wusakile Secondary School. Kaoma, who has confirmed having met the private developer, wondered how he commanded so much authority even after being advised that his plans will not go ahead because the land in question belongs to the school. “He visited my office and told me he was going ahead to put up a mall but I told him it wasn’t possible. He went on to speak with so much authority that there were more senior people than me who have benefited from the deal and there was nothing I could do about it. “He is speaking with a lot of authority and that tell me something, my office has received information that the same investor is targeting Malela Secondary school,” Kaoma said. He warned that the Ministry of Education will not allow investors to invade its land with plans of putting up a mall. “What is surprising is that this man is even aware that Wusakile Secondary school has no land title like any other school, which he thinks will give him an upper hand over the controversial piece of land,” Kaoma added. He advised to reject any maneuvers to auction the school football pitch by alleged higher authorities. “As parents you have a duty to stop this nonsense. As DEBS I will not support it and you must as well not support such developments that are not sustainable,” he added. One of the residents of Wusakile threatened that the community will deal with whoever will move on the school land with intentions of putting up a shopping mall. Home Affairs Minister has expressed concern with the increased number of shutdowns at CNMC Luanshya Copper Mines that led to number of people losing jobs. Speaking on behalf of other ministers that toured Mines on the Copperbelt, Kampyongo cautioned the mining firm against unpredictable shutdowns. He told management at CNMC to run predicable operations that will lead to less shutdowns. “We are concerned with your unpredictable operations here and this has seen people losing jobs, our people are in trauma, we must be able to run predicable operations so that our people are assured of job security,” Kampyongo said. He advised the mining company to put in place measures that would help reduce on factors that lead to shutdowns. Kampyongo said local people are looking forward to employment opportunities once Baluba Mine is reopened. And CNMC Deputy CEO Robert Kamanga said the Mining firm only has a life span of three years and will create 100 direct jobs with 500 indirect jobs once fully operational. He said over 55 millions tonnes of Ore has so far been extracted at the mine since 1975 and it was becoming expensive to run operations. Kamanga said consistent high copper prices will help boost production at Baluba under ground mines which was placed under care and maintenance. He said the mine was closed in 2015 as a result high electricity tariffs and low copper prices on the international market. Kampyongo was accompanied by Mines Minister Richard Musukwa, National Development & Planning Minister Alexander Chiteme, Presidential Affairs Minister Freedom Sikazwe and Copperbelt Minister Japhen Mwakalombe. Others in the entourage included Wusakile MP Pavyuma Kalobo and Ndola Central MP Emmanuel Mulenga among others.
