Christian Council of Zambia chairperson Reverend Suzanne Matale says that it is not true that any church body that visits State House is compromised. And Matale says that being labelled an opposition sympathizer will not stop her voicing out on matters that affect the general populace. Featuring on Radio Phoenix Let the People Talk program, Matale said that there was nothing wrong with the church leaders visiting State House as they had a duty to counsel the national leadership. Anglican Priest Father Richard Luonde made disparaging remarks about the recent visit to State House by the Zambia Council of Catholic Bishops meeting President Edgar Lungu. However, Matale said that not all church leaders that visited State House were for hire and susceptible to brown envelopes. “It is not true that when you go to State House then you have been bought. We are the people on the ground working in communities and raising matters on the pulpit so there is nothing wrong to advise. There is no reason why the church and the state should not sit and talk,†she said. “I would like to exonerate CCZ against claims that the church has been bought we have never been bought and are not about to.†Matale said that although she had never been to State House since President Lungu took over she had previously met Heads of State as part of the Church delegation to raise issues with the government. On being accused of being a member of the opposition United Party for National Development Matale said that she was used to carrying the opposition tag despite only raising matters of national interest and not of a partisan nature. “I have been accused of being opposition each time that I stand on issues that have not gone away. I never change goal posts and maintain my stance on national issues regardless of which political party is in power,†she said. “I spoke the same when Mwanawasa was in office, Rupiah Banda and the late Michael Sata and will definitely do the same if the UPND were in power. Each time when you do not agree with anyone on issues the only thing they run to is accuse you of being opposition. I am not afraid to speak and have nothing against PF but I am not UPND.†She added: “The UPND has also previously accused me of sleeping with the PF. Should I keep quiet because you will accuse me of being UPND?†Matale said that the newly formed Ministry of National Guidance was a waste of money as the state could have continued working with the church through already established channels. “Since Independence the church has always worked very well with line ministries like the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education,†she said. “We do not think it was necessary to create a whole new ministry. There was even limited consultation.†On the referendum, Matale said that there was no need to cry about money as other less important things always got support. She said that the money could be harvested from the corruption that the President accused ministers of engaging in and also toning down on certain lavish expenditure. She said that getting it right on the referendum will lay firm foundation for the future. Matale said the Commission of Inquiry on political violence was a waste of time as the reasons were known. She said that political parties were convened by the church in March prior to the August elections at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross where they renounced political violence but went back to their violent ways afterwards. Matale said the 19 political parties that signed the political communiqué knew where the problem was emanating from but neglected to address it. On the killings of men by some women in some love hate crimes, Matale said that it was wrong to brand the crimes on account of gender. “Women are struggling to get married now and there are men who have 10 girlfriends you know now we have the issue of money that has made this whole problem…men have been killing women for a long time it is not even a gender issue,†she said. FDD spokesperson Antonio Mwanza is not letting up the case against PF secretary general Davies Mwila and has added Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kaganja on his indictment list. Mwanza said that the Inspector General has failed to lead by arresting Mwila for his statement that PF cadres should take over markets and bus stations. He has reported Kanganja to the Police Public Complaints Authority for alleged complicity, professional ineptness and violating the Zambia Police Act. Mwila’s statement t stirred controversy, with President Edgar Lungu calming the storm by meeting the former. The FDD reported Mwila to the police but has gotten impatient with the lack of action from the police. Below is Mwanza’s statement: INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE TAKEN TO TASK I wish to inform the nation that l have today the 31st January, 2017 lodged a formal complaint against Mr Kakoma Kanganja, the Inspector General of Police with the Police Public Complaints Authority for complicity, professional ineptness and violation of the Zambia Police Act for his failure to have Mr Davies Mwila, the Secretary General of the Patriotic Front arrested and charged for inciting PF cadres to forcibly take over the running of markets and bus stations in kabwe. I wish to reminder the nation that on 20th January, 2017 I formally lodged a complaint with the IG against the said Mr Davies Mwila over his criminal utterances of inciting lawlessness and subversion of authority against the Kabwe Local authorities and upto date the IG has failed to act on my complaint. Cap 107 of the Laws of Zambia gives the IG full command, superitendence, direction and control of the entire Police Force hence the failure by the IG to act on a formal complaint duly presented before his office is professional ineptness and a serious violation of the Zambia Police Act. I therefore asked the Police Public Complaints Authority to accordingly cite Mr Kakoma Kanganja for professional ineptness, complicity and violation of the Zambia Police Act ensure that appropriate action is taken against him. I will persue this matter to its logical end because impunity, lawlessness and wanton abuse of authority and public resources must not be tolerated in any democratic country. God bless Zambia. Emmanuel Mwamba, the High Commissioner to South Africa, has delivered an 8-point proposal to curb road carnage in Zambia in which he urges the revocation of the night travel ban. Mwamba has effectively gone against government who recently imposed a night ban of public service vehicles in a bid to curb accidents on Zambian roads. The ban has yielded no success with road accidents continuing at nearly the same rate. This morning 10 people died after a Mazhandu Bus collided with a truck between Kabwe and Kapiri. BELOW IS EMMANUEL MWAMBA’S PROPOSAL We will need a comprehensive approach to end the carnage on the road and save lives. 1. Attend to the corrupt system from roadblocks that still let the not-so-roadworthy vehicles pass through to unlicensed drivers. 2. Introduce speed governors to regulate the speed of buses. 3. Ensure that authorities only allow suitable buses for Zambia. 4. Introduce and verify a training for public service vehicles. 5. Ensure that buses that travel beyond 300km to have two drivers. 6. Revoke the ban on night driving( as this makes drivers race to beat the deadline) 7. Invest in a dedicated highway Patrol system with dedicated allocated vehicles 8..build dual carriage ways on busy routes such as, Lusaka-Livingstone, Lusaka-Copperbelt, Kapiri-Nakonde routes. Add your thoughts too… The post Revoke Night Travel Ban – Emmanuel Mwamba appeared first on Zambia Reports.
