Self-proclaimed Patriotic Front die hard Max Chongu says President Edgar Lungu should be honoured with the coveted Nobel Peace Prize for allegedly promoting peace in Zambia. Chongu claims President Lungu has remained calm and  promoted peace even when under intense provocation from opposition leaders. “Truly speaking with the good leadership qualities being exhibited by president Edgar Chagwa Lungu any well meaningful Zambian will agree that he truly deserves the prestigious and highly decorated noble peace prize award,” he states. Chongu, a former Big Brother Africa reality TV contestant, made the statement last evening. The statement comes in the wake of a widely condemned midnight raid on opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema’s house and his eventual detention on Tuesday afternoon. BELOW IS MAXWELL CHONGU’S STATEMENT PRESIDENT EDGAR CHAGWA LUNGU DESERVES TO BE HONOURED WITH THE NOBLE PEACE PRIZE AWARD FOR HIS RELENTLESS EFFORTS IN PROMOTING PEACE IN ZAMBIA. ======================= Good evening fellow country men and women, comrades from the patriotic front party, all protocols observed. Surely our distinguished humble leader president Edgar Chagwa Lungu deserves to be honoured with a prestigious and highly decorated Noble peace prize for his relentless efforts in insuring that peace and unity prevails in Zambia. Fellow compatriots we have seen how disturbing events have been unfolding post 11 August 2016 general elections were our leader president Edgar Chagwa Lungu has been provoked to extreme levels not once, not twice but on several occasions though he has chosen to promote peace and unity for the sake of our great nation Zambia. Recent provocation orchestrated by the UPND leader Mr Hakainde Hichilema in mongu towards our distinguished humble leader president Edgar Chagwa Lungu which saw our leader being undermined and provoked to extremes is another clear indication that demonstrated proper leadership qualities being exhibited by president Edgar Chagwa Lungu for he chose peace , love and unity for the sake of Zambians. We all know that if it was in west African countries, middle east or just our neighboring countries here like Zimbabwe by now we would have been talking of massive funerals. However president Edgar Chagwa Lungu chose to respect humanity and promote peace something that really makes him a suitable candidate as a recipient of the Noble peace prize award. The behavior of the UPND leader Mr Hakainde Hichilema in mongu not only did it attract massive condemnation from the patriotic front party members but also from UPND members, Zambians in general and the outside world for such has never happened in the history of this world. Truly speaking with the good leadership qualities being exhibited by president Edgar Chagwa Lungu any well meaningful Zambian will agree that he truly deserves the prestigious and highly decorated noble peace prize award. Presidential press Amos Chanda has issued a statement claiming State House has not interfered with the arrest of leading opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema. Hichilema, the opppsition UPND president, was arrested this morning after a midnight raid at his private residence and charged with treason for obstructing a presidential motorcade in Mongu. State House have issued their first statement since the drama unfolded last night. The episode has widely been condemned by all well meaning Zambians and the international community as an act of political intolerance. But Chanda claims the state has no hand in the drama and will not interfere in the investigations. BELOW IS A STATEMENT BY CHANDA STATE HOUSE WILL NOT INTERFERE IN HH PROSECUTION. Lusaka, April 11, 2017 STATE HOUSE has announced that it will not interfere with the ongoing investigations or charges being leveled against UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema. Speaking at a media briefing today Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda clarified that State House had no intentions or business in interfering in police work. Mr Chanda said it was not the duty of State House to prosecute individuals and neither was it their duty to arrest or not arrest individuals. “Several crimes were committed but that is up to the Police to decide whether to prosecute or not, it is up to the Police to decide who to arrest or not,” Mr Chanda said. Mr Chanda emphasised that they believed the police would decisively act on any criminal behavior that occurred in Mongu and the State would let police work independently as always. He added that the UPND media had henceforth forged a statement from his office citing that the President was giving instructions to police. He described the statement as fake and a total fabrication, Mr Chanda said a formal complaint had henceforth been taken to the relevant authorities. Mr Chanda emphasised that State House would not give any comment on the criminal investigations being conducted by police. Leading opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema’s wife says the state is after her husband’s life. Narrating the midnight ordeal, Mutinta Hichilema says she collapsed as a result of excessive chemical discharge sprayed at their private residence. Hichilema has since been arrested and charged with treason for allegedly obstructing a presidential motorcade in Mongu. “What happened is that they just wanted to kill my husband – they wanted to kill my husband! “But this war which they have started is like they are sitting on a volcano which is going to erupt and it will be so difficult for them to contain it! We were in one of the rooms from 22:00 hours [and] they started beating all our workers. “All of them (workers) are now in police cells. They tortured them, brutalised them and then they were asking ‘where is your boss?’ “At first, the workers didn’t want to say but one of them brought them to our room there. They started beating him and the boy was crying. HH then told me ‘my friend, let me go out because these people are going to kill my workers’ but I said ‘you are not going out [because] it’s you they want. Why do they want to pick you up at 22:00 hours?’,†narrated Mutinta. She wondered why police could not summon Hichilema as per standard procedure. “All these years, Hakainde has remained a law-abiding citizen – when he is called by the police, he is always there but I don’t know what went wrong this time around that they should come at 22:00 hours to 23:00 hours. “I resisted that he doesn’t come out because I didn’t know where they wanted to take him. I said there is no witness here apart from the police; they are going to kill you where they will take you,†Mutinta explained. “The boy they brought to our room was crying uncontrollably and I don’t know whether they were touching his private parts; he cried! They started throwing tear gas in the room where we were. “I’m asthmatic and so, I fainted twice and our last born was also there. I don’t know where we are going with this government [because] there is no Zambia any more, I’m telling you. “I think women are more stronger than men and we have to fight this brutal government. Let’s all come together and fight, otherwise we’ll have no country called Zambia.†Mutinta questioned why police transferred Hichilema from Woodlands to Lilayi where he was charged with treason. “When they took my husband here, they said they were taking him to Woodlands but they have now taken him to Lilayi. I have never heard of any political detainee who is taken to Lilayi!†Mutinta said. She alter took some journalists to more than 15 rooms of the house where police caused extensive damage to glass doors, ceiling boards and other electrical appliances. Carpets in all the rooms were turned upside down and beds re-arranged while all the rooms were marred with teargas thrown on Monday night. The officers, usually kept hungry, also broke into the kitchen, whose doors they brought down and they emptied the fridge of all kinds of fruits in it.
