Police in Southern Province have arrested two criminals in connection with the murder of two people identified as Joe Malembe aged 23 of Linda Compound in Lusaka and Andrew Mutendema aged 36 of Chilanga District. Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo has identified those arrested as Kelvin Mwambwa, 30, of Habinji village Chief Mungaila and Munangandu Mwachibinda Chris for the murder of two people in December last year. She said in December, 2017, Adrian Mulenga of Chilanga District sent the two victims and Peter Musole aged 36 to Namwala District in Southern Province to sale his Toyota Hiace Minibus registration number ALP 9259, white in colour. “When they reached Namwala, they proceeded to Maala where they met two people who are the suspects, who pretended to have been interested in buying the said mini bus. Mwambwa and Munangandu [the suspects] negotiated with the sellers to exchange the motor vehicle with heads of cattle as they did not have money in cash form and told the sellers that the animals were at a farm along Namwala – Pemba road. The suspects then carried a shotgun on pretext that they intended to hunt some birds at the farm. “When they reached a place between Namwala and Pemba, the suspects stopped and told the victims to follow them in the bush so that they could be shown the animals. As they were walking on a small path, one of the suspects cocked the gun and fired at Mutendema and Malembe while Peter Musole managed to escape,†Katongo explained. She added that the suspects got into the minibus and drove away while Musole reported the matter to Police. Katongo said Police launched investigations and managed to arrest the suspects and recover the motor vehicle on 18th January, 2018 from Lukulu in Western Province while the suspects are currently detained in Police custody. Industrial unrest is looming at one of Zambia’s largest mobile telecommunication company, Airtel. According to a letter to Zambia Reports by one of the employees, efforts to find a solution to the increasing poor conditions of service have fallen on deaf ears BELOW IS THE LETTER EXPLAINING CONDITIONS OF SERVICE AT AIRTEL Nokia is a multinational company that is in charge of the Networks /Technical department for Airtel after Airtel outsourced this function and transferred all its employees in Networks department to Nokia. This Company has been failing and struggling to meet its salary obligations to its employees since inception yet Airtel is making Huge profits year in and year out. Conditions also keep worsening by each passing year while AIRTEL employees’ conditions keep improving. Yet Airtel when outsourcing and transferring employees to Nokia, promised the Zambian government through the Ministry of Labor that it was not meant to destroy conditions of service to affected/transferred employees. The story which has been there from inception in 2011. The last (2017) salary negotiations ended in a dead lock and while the Union under National Union of communication Works (NUCW) engaged The Ministry of Labor, which granted the Union a go ahead for a strike ballot before proceeding for a strike, Airtel Management and Nokia have defied the government directive by taking the matter to court knowing that the court process will take long. Nokia Management have boastfully said there is nothing that the Government through the ministry of Labor can do as Labor Laws are weak in this Country. They even boast of giving non-unionized more money so as to entice weak Souls thereby destroying the labor movement. Find attached the Letter allowing the strike ballot. This is how multi nationals have reduced and violated workers’ rights through outsourcing. This is despite the fact that Nokia employees in other countries are better remunerated including foreigners working in Zambia under Nokia. May the Government of the Republic Of Zambia intervene and rescue the works who are suffering. Anonymous employee The post Industrial Unrest Looms At Airtel appeared first on Zambia Reports.

To some extent I don’t blame comrade Antonio Mwanza for his defection to ruling party. Our political system is [a] fraud. It does not support youths in the political hierarchy. There is no democracy in political parties. We have allowed too much mediocrity [in] our country. Whoever stand[s/contests] on a certain political party is assured of victory no matter how dull someone can be. Our people vote on party lines and not quality. One would even wonder how [the] Lusaka mayor won despite missing all debates on national television. Our comrade Antonio Mwanza has realised that riding on a pf ticket in 2021 is a quick way to get to parliament which is a correct decision politically. In Munali me and comrade Mwanza were the best candidates but alas people voted on party lines. We learnt it a [the] hard way. Again elders don’t want [to] retire and become statesmen. They have monopolised key positions. The only way we can survive as youths in politics is to throw away our principles and morals and become boolikers. Chilufya tayali is a perfect example. I have 2 issues I would like you to publicise 1. The potholes on Shantumbu Road Lusaka. Who is responsible for maintenance because it has taken forever and no one is working on them but yet we have a lot of government officials living in that area. 2. Road tax management why can’t we buying it on our cell phones like we do electricity and Dstv. And when you are buying road tax 2 days before the next quarter you are forced to buy for the quarter ending as well I think this is not fair.
