FAZ president Andrew Kamanga has been elected to the Cosafa Executive Committee on a weekend the football gods have smiled on Zambian football. His election comes on the back on the Under-20 team winning the Cosafa Championship with the extra incentive of having Zambian referee Jan Sikazwe set to officiate the FIFA Club World Cup final. Kamanga joins the Cosafa inner circle following elections that has brought an end to the reign of Suketu Patel who withdrew from the race. Zimbabwe Football Association president Phillip Chiyangwa has taken over as Cosafa head while the Namibia Football Association president becomes the deputy head of the regional body. Patel and another challenger for the top job Danny Jordaan withdrew at the last minute paving the way for Chiyangwa. The victorious Zambia Under-20 national team have arrived home after bagging their 11th Cosafa title with a deserved 2-1 victory over rivals South Africa on Friday. Beston Chambeshi’s side are overjoyed with the triumph after a splending form during the competition. The team has touched down at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka aboard a South African Airways flight. In the final, sides came into the match riding on a high tide having not lost a match throughout the competition. The host nation had been scoring goals for fun having come into the final with a 15 goal haulage without conceding any but the junior Chipolopolo were not to be deterred by that record and pumped two goals past Sanele Tshabalala. Striker Kenneth Kalunga who started for the first time in the tournament repaid Beston Chambeshi’s faith in him when he drilled home a low shot from an Enock Mwepu assist. However South Africa hit back in the 41st minute through Kabelo Seriba who pounced on a rebound from an Luther Singh free kick. The two sides went to the break tied 1-all and in the second half the two sides sized each other searching for the winner. It was not until the 87th minute that Boyd Musonda unleashed a thunderbolt that gave Tshabalala no chance and gifted Zambia victory. Both sides will be competing at the 2017 Total Under-20 Africa Cup to be hosted by Zambia.   The post Victorious Under-20 Return Home appeared first on Zambia Reports.

The Lusaka High Court has halted proceedings in the petition case brought by UPND president Hakainde Hichilema and his deputy Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba following the riotous behaviour of UPND cadres. High Court judge Mwila Chitabo said that the prevailing conditions where cadres disrupted proceedings made it impossible for the court to sit. Judge Chitabo said that the atmosphere was un-conducive and will therefore suspended proceedings indefinitely. On Thursday police and UPND cadres fought running battles at the Supreme Court building leaving property damaged. The cadres forced their way in the building after they learnt that the matter will be heard in chambers. Hichilema and Mwamba want the High Court to ascertain their right to be heard under the Constitution after their petition was thrown out by the Constitutional Court.
