The ruling Patriotic Front general secretary Davis Mwila says National Democratic Congress leader Chishimba Kambwili has made overtures to reconcile with President Edgar Lungu. BELOW IS THE FULL STATEMENT For Immediate Release 5th February, 2018 KAMBWILI BEGS PRESIDENT LUNGU TO FORGIVE HIM Embattled expelled Roan Member of Parliament, Chishimba Kambwili has been sending emissaries to His Excellency, President Edgar Lungu asking the President to forgive him and allow him back in the Patriotic Front. This came to light yesterday in Kapiri Mposhi, when PF Secretary General, Hon Davies Mwila officially launched the PF’s mobilisation exercise for Central Province. Mr. Mwila revealed that Mr Kambwili has been going to some named priests and chiefs begging them to plead with President Edgar Lungu to reinstate him back in the Patriotic Front. “I want to tell all those in NDC that Chishimba Kambwili whom they think is their leader has actually been sending emissaries to President Edgar Lungu pleading for forgiveness from the President. He has been begging the President to forgive him and to reinstate him back in the party. This has been going on for sometime now, it’s just that unlike him, we are mature enough so we couldn’t expose him but he is unrepentant that is why I have decided to expose him today. So all you members of NDC who are following Kambwili you will soon find outside as orphans with no leader,” Hon Mwila said adding that as a Party, the PF will only forgive Mr Kambwili only if he climbs and apologise from the ant hill, in the same manner that he has been insulting the President. And speaking at the same function, PF Central Province Chairperson, who is also Member of Parliament for Chitambo constituency, Hon Mutale Chanda warned that the party in the province will not allow anyone to insult and demean the Head of State with impunity. He reteirated the Secretary General’s earlier sentiments that people must differentiate between President Edgar Lungu as a person and President Edgar Lungu as holder of the office of the President. “As Central Province with my youths here we won’t allow anyone to be insulting the president, especially the Presidency. It is not about how a person looks, it’s about the Presidency as an institution. As Central Province we are saying that those who are insulting the Presidency, let them attempt to come to Central Province and insult the President, that’s when they will know that kwaliba ubuteko bwa mpili-mpili (that’s when they will know that there is a leadership of chili in Central Province.),” warned Hon Mutale. He further challenged the Party members to choose which party they want to belong other than double-dealing as he won’t hesitate to execute the Secretary General’s directive to discipline any member of the party in the province who is not loyal to the Party. Meanwhile Mr Mwila declared 2018 as a year of party mobilisation and warned that the PF will not allow non-performing officials to continue holding on to party positions. He demanded commitment and hard work from all party officials. “This year 2018 is a year for us to start mobilising the Party. We have to change the way we do things. And all of us who are holding party positions must show commitment,” He said. “Inchito twaingilamo (the job we are doing) is about sacrifice. All of us here with the exception of myself, MPs, Mayors, Councillors and Council Chairpersons are volunteers; no one gets paid. So it’s not an easy job because you have to leave your work, your business to come here and work for the party,” observed Hon Mwila. The SG further reteirated his message that for the party to grow there is need for all the party members to be committed to the cause. He cautioned that the party will not allow non-performing members to continue holding on to party positions. “This year we shall not allow passengers to continue holding party positions. Some of you have been around as chairmen, chairladies, youth chairpersons buy you have not even held a single meeting from the time you took office. Most party wings are dormant. You are waiting for the chairpersons to call for meetings. You must be holding your own meetings as long as you get permission from the chairmen. We will not allow that kind of approach this year,” Mr Mwila cautioned. The launch was attended by PF leaders from all the 11 districts and 14 constituencies of Central Province including Members of the Central Committee as well as Members of Parliament such as Hon Davies Chisopa of Mkushi South, Hon Tutwa Ngulube of Kabwe Central and Hon Sydney Mushanga among others. Hon Davies Mwila is expected to be in Eastern Province next week to officially launch the mobilisation exercise there. Issued by Antonio Mwanza, PF Deputy Director for Media. The Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) has paid tribute to the retired archbishop of Lusaka Telesphore Mpundu who resigned his position. Bishop Mpundu presided over the Catholic Church over some of the most politically turbulent times but survived almost unscathed and will look back to his times with satisfaction. PRESS RELEASE Lusaka, 4nd February 2018 – The Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops ZCCB) would like to convey its most sincere gratitude to Most Rev. Telesphore George Mpundu, the Archbishop Emeritus of Lusaka and President of the Conference for the valuable service he has rendered to the Catholic Church in Zambia, AMECEA Region and the Church universal during his episcopal ministry that spans over thirty years. We also wish to acknowledge the fact that Archbishop Mpundu was in fact appointed Bishop of the then Mbala-Mpika Diocese at a rather tender age. He was thereafter made Coadjutor of Lusaka Archdiocese and later installed as the Metropolitan of Lusaka. Indeed, his contributions to the work of evangelisation, especially in the area of promoting social justice and peace has been exceptional. We, the Catholic Bishops in Zambia, have benefited a lot from his able leadership especially when he served as President of the Bishops’ Conference from 1993 to 1999, then 2002 to 2008 and finally from 2014 until now. We recall that he was elected at critical times when the whole country needed the moral voice from the Church in response to the pressing social, economic and political concerns that engulfed our beloved country. He guided the Conference and the Church on how to give moral guidance to the nation. As he prepares to take a back-seat from the daunting task of running the Archdiocese of Lusaka and enter into another phase of his life, a life of prayerful rest and contemplation, we wish him all the very best and God’s blessings. We pray that he will continue to be our companion and a source of good counsel to us, his brother bishops. At the same time, we wish to register our heartfelt congratulations to the Archbishop-Elect, Dr Alick Banda, who until his new appointment, has been the Bishop of Ndola. We are confident that his experience of being a shepherd in two dioceses, namely Solwezi and Ndola, will enable him, with the help of God, to take care of his flock in the Archdiocese of Lusaka. We wish to assure him of our support and prayers as he takes up his new appointment. Rt. Rev. George Cosmas Zumaile Lungu Bishop of Chipata ZCCB VICE-PRESIDENT The post Catholics Pay Tribute to Retired Bishop Mpundu appeared first on Zambia Reports.

The past week had seen successive images of Luapula province Members of Parliament combing through the constituencies in near campaign like fashion. What has really prompted this sudden awakening by the Luapula lawmakers? Many reasons abound for the possible sudden sense of urgency. Could it be that the resignation of Foreign Affairs minister Harry Kalaba from his portfolio may have sent warning signals that things may not after all be okay for the ruling party in a constituency they consider to be their bedroom? Kalaba has abandoned the privilege of his ministerial position to remain an ordinary lawmaker under the ruling Patriotic Front party. Kalaba has taken a backseat but his having taken a walkabout in Bahati Constituency a few days gave an impression of how popular he remains among the people of Bahati Constituency. The ruling party seems to have gone into panic mode and sent all the party’s disciples into campaign mode. Even the more development and sober minded Dr Chitalu Chilufya has also caught the virus and has been making political pronouncements. But it is not only the anti Kalaba rhetoric that has raised eyebrows of the unfolding political spectacle but also the messages that seems to be rendering certainty to President Edgar Lungu contesting the 2021 general elections. It is a matter that the courts have yet to decide but all the speakers have wound up on a note that the people should rally behind President Lungu in 2021. Whatever the goings on it is very clear that the MPs are fighting something only them can see. It has been one week of incessant political campaigns and their adversaries may make a meal of not having the same opportunity given the gag provided by the Public Order Act. While it is within the ministers’ prerogative to interact with their constituents it is however questionable that the desire should be sparked by the resignation of cabinet minister. How long the new found desire for constituency visitation by Luapula MPs is anybody’s guess. The post OPINION: Has Luapula Re-Opened the Campaign Season? appeared first on Zambia Reports.

National Democratic Congress (NDC) defacto leader Chishimba Kambwili had a showdown with Copperbelt Police Commissioner Charity Katanga. Kambwili has been summoned with five other NDC officials to appear before the Ndola police command for undisclosed offences. The Roan Constituency Patriotic Front Member of Parliament called commissioner Katanga after police officers went to his house in Luanshya to deliver a police call out. Kambwili refused to receive the call out and opted to blast Katanga on the phone vowing that he would not appeal before the police. Katanga warned Kambwili that shunning the police would be at his own peril. The Roan lawmaker has become a wanted man by the police with a litany of police cases ongoing against him. Kambwili has emerged as the most vicious critic of President Edgar Lungu after having been fired last year. He has clung on to his parliamentary seat under the PF ticket after having gone to court.
