Zambia’s Catherine Phiri has surrendered the WBC Bantamweight World title to Mexico’s Mariana “Barby†Juarez after losing a 10 round bout on points. It was the 30-year-old Zambian lost a fight in her 14 bout career. The clash was held at Arena Zócalo in Mexico City. Juarez was two good for the home girl. She won eight of the 10 rounds. Catherine was only good enough when she came close to showing her prowess in the 6 and 7th rounds. Phiri won the WBC Bantamweight world title on January 30, 2016, at the Centro De Convenciones, Rosarito, Mexico, with a seventh round TD over Yazmin Rivas. On August 27, 2016, Phiri made her first defense of her WBC Belt, and won by a first round TKO over Gabisile Tshabalala. Vice President Inonge Wina has tested the political waters in Barotseland ahead of next weekend’s Kuomboka ceremony to be graced by President Edgar Lungu. Barotseland has over the year been a political landmine with a fierce call for secession from Zambia dominating political discourse in the region. The Litunga is also embroiled in a battle with some of his subjects rebelling against him and dragging him to court. On February 3, 2017 some subjects of the Litunga filed a court action asking him to step down for alleged gross incompetence. With the Kuomboka coming up next Saturday, Wina went to Western Province on a reconnaissance mission to test the ground. She toured some projects among them the Mongu-Kalabo road. President Edgar Lungu is excited a Zambian Breweries Plc Malting Plant has so far created 5, 000 plus jobs. The Head of State officiated at the laying of the foundation stone yesterday where he commissioned officially commissioned the multi-million-dollar Zambian Breweries Malting Plant. “The new malting plant will contribute to creating business for farmer suppliers who will provide the brewery with barley thus spurring economic growth and job creation, ultimately putting more money in our people’s pockets,” an elated President Lungu states. “You may wish to note that in addition to the 50 permanent jobs created at this plant during construction, over 1,100 jobs were created. A further 4,000 farm jobs from 40 commercial farmers as well as from Kasisi, Chanyanya and Kaleya small scale cooperatives have also been created.” President Lungu has commended Zambian Breweries Plc for the giant step in expanding its operations in Zambia. “Let me assure you that my government will continue supporting any initiative that aims at creating jobs for our people and strengthening of the Zambian Economy. “The PF Government has put in place a number of policy measures aimed at diversifying the economy and in particular up-scaling the manufacturing sector towards higher value addition and upgrading capacity in the provision of related services,” he said. President Lungu is confident Zambia’s economic will boom with more investment destined for various sectors. The post Pres. Coach Beston Chambeshi’s fledglings are earmarked for another training camp in Europe ahead of the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup. The African champions are expected in Lusaka at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport at 14:30 hours. Zambia is in Group C alongside Portugal, Costa Rica and Iran and will be be based at Jeju Island. At the Adidas Korea Invitational Tournament, Zambia beat Ecuador 2-0 before losing 4-1 to South Korea. Zambia beat Honduras 4-1 in the final match to end the tournament on a high note emerging second at the tournament.
