FDD Spokesperson Antonio Mwanza got a taste of Dundumwezi love and dug into some of the issues around the electorally famous constituency. Mwanza dissected the probable Dundumwezi electoral motivation for voting the way they did tying it to the United States elections that are at the heart of global political discourse. Below is the full posting by Mwanza: THE PEOPLE OF DUNDUMWEZI WERE RIGHT: STOP DEMONISING THEM AND BANTU BONSE BA KUMUSANZA There is a propaganda scheme by some people to label others as tribal and sow and nurture a seed of hate towards others. When they overwhelmingly win in certain regions they say that the people voted in such a manner because that is their stronghold but when others overwhelmingly win in certain regions the same characters stand up and accuse their friends saying the people in that specific region voted in the manner they did because they are tribal. Now, any ardent follower of politics knows very well that ethnicity, policies, character, party, age, gender, race, religion all play a crucial role in the choices voters make when electing people. The United States of America, which is widely recognised as the epitome of democracy is divided in what are called red states and blue states; red states traditionally vote Republican and blue states traditionally vote Democrat. The elections in the USA are often decided by what are termed Swing States. These are a couple of states that neither lean Republican nor Democrat but swing red or blue in almost every election. Race, gender, religion, all play a very significant role in America’s elections. It took over 200 years for a black man to win the race to the White House and it has taken over 200 years for a woman to be nominated as a candidate for a major political party in the USA. It is almost impossible for a black person, a Muslim, let alone a woman to be President of the United States of America. In UK Gordon Brown is the first Scottish in modern history to be elected Prime Minister of Britain. And only two women have so far served as Premiers of Britain in its long political history. Sadiq Khan is the first and only Muslim to be elected as Mayor of London. In Nigeria, religion plays a key role in elections. The people in the North and the ones in the South vote on the basis of Christianity and Islam. In the Middle East many voters vote on the basis of the variations of Islam, that is Sunni and Shia Islam. Even at UNZA, monks traditionally vote for those who are radical as UNZASU executive while Momas and Mojos often vote for soft characters as UNZASU executive. Young voters often vote for candidates who are liberal and on the other hand older people often vote for more conservative candidates. So to try and demonise the people of Dundumwezi or indeed the great people of Kumusanza is to choose to deliberately ignore the dynamics that are always at play in the electoral process or worse still it is to be hypocritical and try to play the Tribal Card. Everywhere in the world, dynamics such as ethnicity, race, age, policies, party, gender, character all play a crucial role in elections. Viva Dundumwezi. Utachiyandi achileke.
