[Independent (Kampala)] Kampala, Uganda -A rise in price of cigarettes and change in distribution channel have helped British American Tobacco Uganda Limited (BATU) record growth in net profit amidst tough tobacco regulation. Mathu Kiunjuri, the managing director BATU, told shareholders during the Annual General Meeting held at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel on May 9 that the company recorded a 55% growth in net profit to Shs- 12billion last year, up from Shs7.8billionn in 2016 and Shs20billion in 2015.
