President Edgar Lungu has saluted Zambia’s Chipolopolo for beating Algeria 3-1 in a World Cup qualifier at Heroes Stadium in Lusaka on Saturday. President Lungu also congratulated FAZ president Andrew Kamanga and coach Wedson Nyirenda for their efforts in guiding the team to victory. “As patron of Football Association of Zambia, I wish to congratulate the Zambia National team for a splendid performance which results to the 3-1 victory against Algeria National Team in the yesterday’s match played in Lusaka. “I wish to further congratulate The President of FAZ and his entire bench for this victory. You worked hard to equip the team with all necessary skills. “To the team, Keep up the good work and always remember to work together as a team. You’ve made us proud,” he says. Meanwhile, The Zambia National Soccer Team has left for Algeria ahead of Tuesday’s Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup return leg qualifier against the Desert Foxes in Constantine. Barely eight hours after having comprehensively defeated Algeria 3-1 at National Heroes Stadium before a sold out crowd, the team took a flight to Constantine. Russia based striker Fashion Sakala has stayed behind after having been red carded in Saturday match against Algeria. The team left aboard a chartered aircraft operated by Rwan Air six minutes after midnight and was expected to make a brief stopover in Kigali before heading to Constantine. Sports Minister Moses Mawere, FAZ president Andrew Kamanga and hordes of supporters joined the team on the aircraft with the players bubbling with confidence. The eight hour flight will see the team arrive in Constantine around 09:00 hours Zambian time. Zambia revived its interest in World Cup qualifiers with their victory over the Desert Foxes to move to second position in Group B. Nigeria tops the group on nine points with Zambia having four points while Cameroun is third with two points. FULL SQUAD Toaster Nsabata (Zanaco) Allan Chibwe (Power Dynamos). MMD National Secretary Raphael Nakacinda has advised members across the country to remain calm and disciplined in view of what transpired on Friday when the PF petitioned their Secretary General against Finance Minister Felix Mutati. Nakacinda says those who have sponsored the group from Eastern Province who petitioned Davies Mwila to force Mutati to resign were oblivious to the current political dynamics in the country. “I want to assure the members across the country in view of the propaganda and some petty politics today they need not panic. Let them remain calm. What ever issues have been raised as MMD we are a disciplined party and we believe in resolving issues using superior logic. We will not engage in the internal politics of the PF and whatever may have motivated them to behave the way they have behaved today.” He called on members of his party to lead by example by ignoring what happened and demonstrate that they are a mature and disciplined party and show the nation that as a party they are more concerned with the development of the country as opposed to fighting one another. “MMD is a disciplined party and let discipline rein and let’s show maturity and wisdom in dealing with the situation that has been raised. “Your President Hon Felix Mutati was chosen on merit to be minister of finance and it was understood that he was President of a political party and it was appreciated that as MMD we in good faith supported the candidature of Edgar Lungu and moving forward ours is to continue working towards reorganizing the ourselves so that even when it comes to our value in this relationship it is enhanced. “I think we will not be drawn or distracted by any attempt by people who seem not to appreciate the dynamics of the country political scenario in this country in view of the amended constitution,” he said. Hired PF cadres were bused to the PF secretariat last week in a well sponsored plot to send a message to President Edgar Lungu that his purse man was not welcome in the ruling party. It was a good day at the office for Zambia’s Chipolopolo as they defeated Algeria 3-1 on Saturday. Congratulations FAZ and the boys for a fine performance. The victory should have passed without any distraction. That awkward moment reappeared when the cameras zoomed in on Zambian defender Stophilla Sunzu. Inscriptions on Sunzu’s jersey were dropping, literally. No one should seek to dilute that victory with anything else, but we have to face it. Mafro is a failed project. The sooner we admit Mafro has ripped us off the better we can recover from this raw deal. Let’s look at it this way. Zambia is 2012 Africa Cup champion, 2017 Africa U-20 champions and FIFA World Cup 2017 quarter finalists. The same Under-20 carry the COSAFA 2016 champions tag. Zambia is also Under-17 COSAFA champions (2017). Add 2017 COSAFA Senior Challenge runners up and 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) finalists. That’s not an average curriculum vitae. And to end up with a kit supplier that is not ticking should worry us all. The Sunzu moment was nothing, but a very awkward moment with the potential to dent our image. It had nothing to do with the type of screen printing. A poor-quality outfit cannot be easily decorated. Three months into the Mafro deal, the best the Singapore company could do for us is throw a jersey in our direction that make us look like a double orphan. Coming to replicas, the streets of Zambia were littered with fong-kong. There is no better moment to cash in on national team paraphernalia than when Chipolopolo is hosting such big matches. With a game as huge a profile as Algeria in a World Cup qualifier, FAZ missed an opportunity to maximise on revenue. Selling a minimum of 50, 000 (the capacity of Heroes) replica jerseys at K100 could easily have given FAZ at least K5 million revenue. We let it pass. Congratulations to those genius entrepreneurs who littered Lusaka and other places with the unauthorised substitutes that helped us celebrate the win. It made us stand out in the absence of the ‘genuine’ replica. The post Chipolopolo: That Awkward Moment That Interferes With A Good Day appeared first on Zambia Reports.
