Sports minister Moses Mawere yesterday gave Zambia’s junior Chipolopolo a morale boosting visiting urging the team to go all the way to the semi-final of the FIFA Under-20 World Cup. Mawere arrived at the Grand Hyatt, the team’s base in Jeju, to encourage them as they face Germany in the round of 16 tonight. The government official who has watched all group matches the young Chipolpolo have played at the tournament encouraged the team not to be under pressure but enjoy their way to victory. “Tomorrow’s [today] game is do or die. You are a champion of Africa and now you are about to become champions of the world. And to me my colleagues, you reaching the last four teams, you will be my champions,†he said. “I know it may not be easy to win the cup, but reaching the last four teams I can assure you the sky will be a limit for all of you because you will not go back to Zambia empty handed. You will go back with something which everyone will be looking into.†Mawere says beating Germany will also open good career doors for the team resulting into improved standards of living. “I want to see you people shine in the tournament so that serious scouts can come to you and you can sign contracts which will enhance your career. “I want you to become the Messis of this world, the Ronaldos of this world. We can also have our own from Zambia because world over there are leagues which are very competitive. “These are leagues we want to find all of you. Once you are found there, it means your career is enhanced. Even your standard of living will change because you will have good income,†he said. Mawere said Zambians including the Head of State President Edgar Lungu were anxious and looking forward to today’s game. Last week, President Lungu awarded the Under-20 team with Zambia’s insignia of meritorious achievement award; first division for winning the African title last February. Mware said the country will have an unofficial holiday to catch the match which will be played at 13:00 hours Zambian time. He expressed confidence the team had what it takes to beat any opponent at the tournament. “It is not a simple game. It’s a very tough game. It may change or it may determine our destiny, but I have watched all the games and I can say all the teams which are there are beatable because you are champions,†said Mawere. By Chilufya Tayali There was nothing new that came out of the discussion except that, some discussants presented their points well while others were all over the place. Brian Mwiinga who was supposed to be the main man of the show, but did not do a good job to advocate for his boss and clearly point out the challenges of good Governance that Zambia is facing. Brian was rather emotional and quarrelsome with Amos Chanda, when he should have sliced the man into pieces with beautiful points. Since Amos is the Presidential aid, I would have expected Brian to take the debate into State House to show that President Lungu is being dictatorial. Amos came with the same shaky legs that he had when he was interviewed by BBC. The same question of why a chaotic road incidence turned into Treason came back and Amos could not explain it. Amos is hoping the Judges will explain it for him. I hope Mwami 1will explain it in court in my libel case coming up this Friday in court 6 Yes, Brian was right to point out that Amos is feeling the power to even call others foolish on an international media. Amos is feeling so big, because if he wants he can pick up a phone and call Ba Kanganja and tell him that the police is not a service but a force. But Amos should know that nothing is permanent, 2021 is coming and EEP will be in power, he may have to face Brian if I appoint him. Anyway, PF should pray that EEP comes in power otherwise Frank Bwalya was very right to say, if HH comes in power, he will throw all of them (PF) in jail. I am the only President who wants to stop this useless persecutions. I will not be interested in personal vendettas but developing the economy and fighting corruption. Laura Miti did very well on that score because she pointed out that, politicians treat each other the same way depending on where they are. UPND is complaining because they are in opposition but when they are in power they will do the same thing. She used Kambwili as a good example, saying that, he terrorized the media and others when he was in power but now, he is out, he is crying. Laura also nicely confirmed that people are scared to freely express themselves, though she is tough tested so she speaks her mind. Bernadette Deka, was the worst of them all, at one point she froze in fear of her job when she was asked if the different institutions of governance are working independently. The poor lady could not make a point in fear of being sacked today. I wish she had declined way before, otherwise, the program was a bit too much for her. Anyway, for those PF stooges, who think that this is a joke, wait, more is coming. HH maybe painstakingly stubborn but treason…..you have gone too far and this is going to blow on your faces if you don’t sort it out fast. Read the signs of where we are going, you will pay a bigger price than HH for this abuse of power.
